sonomait.com rebuild

My MSP site, rebuilt from a one-page static site into free tools, a blog, and a real lead source.

What I learned

Why I rebuilt it

The old Sonoma IT site was a single static page. I wanted interactive tools and more content, but I didn’t want WordPress, which is a pain to manage and a constant security risk. I also didn’t want to hire a developer, so I built it myself with Shelley, the coding agent on exe.dev.

Free tools as the hook

The heart of the site is a set of free tools: a downtime cost calculator, a cybersecurity self-assessment, an email security checker, an email header analyzer, and employee onboarding and offboarding checklists. They help people without paying me anything, and they often lead to a conversation once someone sees where they stand.

How it went

The build was pretty easy, tools included. The one gap is the blog: there’s no CMS, so adding posts means touching code. That’s why I’m thinking about moving the site to Framer.

Results

It’s working. The site has already brought in a few great leads that turned into new business, and the content is aimed at the clients I most want to work with: CPA firms, registered investment advisors, family offices, schools, and nonprofits.
